about

This album is a collection of the songs we recorded for the Hereford River Carnival Film 'Head to the river (a love letter to Hereford) which was produced in 2020 for the virtual River Carnival on the 4th & 5th September.

The concept for the film was derived from six characters that are associated with hereford over the last 100 years. Local Artists created Big Head puppets which played all the parts in the film.

Track 1 and 8 - This is the theme music running through the film.
'Sleepy Lagoon' was chosen for the watery theme and the almost hypnotic feel that lead the characters to the river.

Track 2 - 'Arkansas Traveller' the theme for local metal artist Walenty Pytel who's sculptures can be seen all over the world.

Track 3 - 'Melancholy Muppet' is attributed to Frank Oz who was born in Hereford and went on to become a master puppeteer playing Yoda in the Star Wars films and Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear in the Muppets.

Track 4 - 'Petit Fluer' was chosen to symbolise the life of Herefordshire Artist Dora Carrington who was part of the Bloomsbury set in the 1920's and 30's.

Track 5 - Hereford United will always be remembered for their Giant killing win against Newcastle United in 1972 thanks to a wonder goal from Ronnie Radford and the commentary from a young John Motson who regards that match as his career breakthrough. Our version of 'Match of the day' is to celebrate the event.

Track 6 - In 'Amazing Squid' We wanted to represent Herefordshire's singer song writing talent Ellie Goulding, the now world famous pop star. In the film we see her frolicking though a cornfield by the River Wye to our take on Amazing Grace.

Track 7 - 'Down to the river' is a tribute to the contemporary adventurer and environmental activist Kiko Matthews who hails from Hereford.

The Album contains full length versions of the music on the soundtrack.
